The Brief

Dublin is famous for its writers and poets who flourished in all periods but particularly from the early 20th Century.

The Approach

The approach was to use the historic building to show the writers as people and to look deeper into issues that may have influenced them, shaped them and developed their talent and passion. It looked at Family, education, associates, travel, social interests, passion etc

The Challanges

Displaying books and writings can be boring so the focus was to create an understanding of the writers as people starting with portraits, busts or images and then Items associated with them personally like their desk, chair, typewriter or pen. Items associated with their family and upbringing, their interests and their educational and social life.

The museum was boosted as a literary hub in a planned way by positioning the living writers centre next door, having activities associated with literature and writing and the Chapter 1 restaurant in the basement.
